Women of Email™ Celebrates a Year of Success
Email Industry’s First Association for Women Delivers Peer Network, Speakers Bureau & Mentoring Program
Edgewater, NJ — Women of Email™ is pleased to announce the first anniversary of its founding. The association, established on June 3, 2016, enables women in the email marketing niche to advance their careers through mentorship, speaking engagements, and peer support. Founded by by Jen Capstraw of Adobe, Kristin Bond of Girl Scouts of the USA, April Mullen of Selligent, and Laura Atkins of Word to the Wise, Women of Email boasts of 800+ members in 23 countries across 5 continents.
Women of Email was initially created to address limited gender diversity among email conference speakers.
“At 47%, women make up nearly half of those employed as email marketers,” said Jen Capstraw, President of Women of Email. “Yet we noticed women generally account for 20 – 40% of speakers at email conferences. We launched our mentoring program and speakers bureau to help cultivate the next generation of industry thought leaders and connect conference organizers with fresh voices.”
To date, the Women of Email speakers bureau has filled a total of 17 speaker slots, ranging from seasoned to first-time speakers. Two panels curated and moderated by Women of Email are among the speakers bureau’s most noteworthy accomplishments.
Women of Email has also launched a mentorship program. The quarterly flash-style program enables members to pinpoint a specific topic or objective—such as public speaking skills, salary negotiation, or email development—and matches them with an industry veteran for a short-term mentoring relationship.
The association also manages a highly active online community—where members share career advice, coding tips, job opportunities, and other relevant topics—and has hosted 17 meetups in four countries, bringing members together face-to-face around the globe.
In the coming year, Women of Email will finalize its incorporation and apply for 501(c)3 non-profit status, which will enable the association to accept tax-deductible donations and sponsorships. Co-founders are also exploring opportunities to align more closely with male allies in the industry to further advance its mission.
Conference organizers are invited to contact the Women of Email speakers bureau at speakers@womenofemail.org for assistance in identifying accomplished and up-and-coming speakers, and advancing gender diversity objectives.
